The nearest beaches can be reached in barely ten minutes by car, and you will have your pick of the small secluded coves on the peninsula or the long, languid strips of sand that run along the north coast towards picture-perfect Cefalù.

Villetta Giusy is situated on a single carriageway provincial road which is important enough to be well maintained but carries only the lightest of local traffic. This is a quiet, rural area characterised by olive groves vineyards and gentle hillsides – you would never think the city was just around the corner. However, the residents of this district are here all year, not only visiting in summer, so there is a feeling of security and help being at hand when you need it.

The nearest supermarket is just five minutes away on the road into the large market town of Bagheria, famous for its Baroque villas and home to the nearest train station. Speaking of transport links, you are only five minutes away from the motorway, which brings traffic from the east of Sicily to the island’s capital, Palermo.

Palermo is Italy’s fifth largest city, and one of its most enthralling. Whether you’re picking up fresh produce in the sprawling, souk-like street markets, or tucking into Palermitano street food delicacies like arancina, cannoli and panelle, you’ll be treated to an explosion of flavour. To walk off the calories, take a stroll through the bohemian piazzas and parks of the trendy La Kalsa district, or dive into the world class boutiques on glamorous Via Libertà.
