Property Description
Real Estate in Porticello
Casa Maisonette is a beautiful piece of real estate in Porticello, a fishing village just outside Santa Flavia. The maisonette apartment unusually has twin entrances: the first at the end of the cul-de-sac which leads from the sea, the promenade just 300m away. The second floor entrance is reached via a neat internal staircase. The second entrance is on the small road from Porticello to the village of Santa’Elia – this entrance is at street level with stair-free access.
From the larger road you first enter a hallway-like reception room, to the right of which is a small bathroom with tub and toilet, and a window onto an internal courtyard. On the left there is a large room with a window overlooking the cul-de-sac on the sea side of the property. This room is plumbed to become either a kitchen or an extremely spacious bathroom.
The wonderful feature hallway leads on past these, with traditional floor tiles and beautiful feature ceiling, all recently renovated and in perfect condition, including the original wooden doors. It then opens onto the next rooms: on the left a large bed- or reception room, again with authentic traditional ceramic floor tiles and ornamental ceiling. To the right another lovingly-restored double door opens to a balcony with a view across the lower street and down to the sea. One further room offers windows to both a lightwell and the street behind the house.
All of these rooms have also been completely renovated and tiled. At the far end of the hallway the second entrance to the apartment leads onto the stairwell. This leads up one floor to the second level of the apartment: a large room which would be very suitable for a kitchen (the requisite installations are in place). Finally, from here you step a door leads to perhaps the property’s best feature: over 60m2 of roof terrace with fantastic sea views.
Furnishings
The apartment is freshly renovated to a very high standard and the kitchen connections are prepared. In some rooms, very beautiful antique feature ceilings and floor tiles give an elegant and unique charm. A heater is not currently installed, but could easily be retrofitted.
Surroundings
Porticello is the fishing port of Santa Flavia, a quiet, authentic village with small shops of all kinds including pharmacies and medical practices, and a train station which takes you to Palermo in just 15 minutes. In the traditional Sicilian fashion groceries like fruit and vegetables, bread, eggs and fish are sold by passing salesmen in the street right in front of the house – what could be simpler or more charming? Several excellent restaurants can be found at the harbor nearby and in the village overlooking the sea. If you prefer, a larger supermarket is just 300m away. The nearest beach is within 600m.
Potential
The special thing about this apartment: Everything is perfectly renovated or restored. The old floors, ceilings and doors were largely preserved and of course the great sea view is a huge bonus. The nearest supermarket and a trattoria are only a few steps away.
